1923 Dodge Brothers

1923 Dodge Brothers - $14,900 - Houston, TX -

1923 Dodge Brothers Business Sedan

Chassis No. 990253

The Dodge Brothers were famous long before they built the first car that carried their name. They established a small machine shop at the turn of the century, and were soon building engines for Ransom E. Old's and later became stockholders in the Ford Motor Company for whom they built engines, transmissions and axles. By 1913, they realized that the Ford Company was heading toward self-sufficiency, and they decided to sell their stock and started their own venture.

Few people know that the 1923 Dodge models literally divide the past from the present. The Business Sedan was made of a steel skin welded to an all steel framework. These all steel bodies were much stronger than their wood counterparts. They were safer, longer lasting and as it turned out, pioneered the future in car building.

The Dodge Sedan also made news when General Pershing chased Pancho Villa across Mexico in his Sedan; Villa so admired the car that he bought one for himself. It is said that he was captured in that very Dodge.

Purchased new by a Mr. Bishop, a cabinetmaker in Huntington, NY. The famous collector Lester Cutting later found it and allowed the previous owner to purchase the car from the estate in 1962 for $125.00. During its early life it had been sparingly used as the family’s Sunday driver for church and running errands. The survivor was discovered completely intact with original paint and mohair upholstery; the spare tire is also original to the car from new.

The Sedan’s remains in excellent working order as all of its mechanical components have been properly restored, the water pump packing is now due for replacement. The pervious long-term caretaker spent years rebuilding and reviving the components under the tutelage of renowned antique automotive master mechanic George Kellner. The engine was then shipped to Federal Mogul Machinists in Chicago, IL for a complete short block rebuild. Very few early closed-car Dodges are known to still wear their original interior upholstery, especially in this condition! This example is truly a time capsule survivor!

  • Highly Original & Meticulously Preserved!
  • Previous Long-Term Ownership!
  • One of the Last Early Dodges Fitted with Original Upholstery!
  • Running & Ready to Enjoy!

1931 Ford Model A

1931 Ford Model A - $34,900 - Orange Village, OH -

Original wagon, fully restored to MARC specifications. Reproduction body by John Kirst using original materials and hardware throughout. High-speed rear end. An accurate and expertly tuned Model A ready to tour or show.

This lovely 1931 Model A has been comprehensively restored by a noted restorer to MARC (Model A Restorer’s Club) specifications, and is one of the most accurate and well-detailed woody wagons available anywhere. The body is an exact reproduction built by noted expert John Kirst, who created the body panels using lumber felled from the same old-growth forest Ford used in 1931. The hardware used throughout is original Ford equipment, including most of the nuts, bolts, and screws. Finished in 2003, it remains in excellent condition throughout, with virtually zero wear on the wooden body panels, which were finished using a soft satin urethane instead of the bright, shiny spar varnish used by Ford, giving it a vintage look without the maintenance. All the chrome and stainless components were completely restored, including the original TwoLite headlamps and an original quail hood ornament.

Inside, black leatherette seats feature original frames with new seat covers that match the originals in fit and specificationAll the door hardware and latches are original, although the screws securing the inner door panels are stainless for long-lasting beauty. All four doors open and close easily with no binding, and for a wooden car, this one is surprisingly free of squeaks and rattles. New side curtains have been recently fitted at a cost of over $800, and are stored in the original box under the rear section of the body.

With strict attention to authenticity, this car runs like new thanks to a correct Zenith carburetor and an original style ignition system complete with flat copper plug leads. Even the water pump is an original style spinning a 2-blade fan, and the car runs all day at proper temperatures. Of note, this is the car’s original engine, with numbers that match those stamped on the frame rail. The only noteworthy upgrade is a high-speed 3.54 ring and pinion, which allows this wagon to comfortably cruise all day at 55 MPH without sacrificing around-town performance. Other details include a correct stop light switch, and the proper tailpipe extension, which prevents the interior from filling with exhaust fumes, a detail many woody restorers overlook. Wagons were available with the customer’s choice of wheel colors, with those on this car restored in Apple Green and wearing new Firestone blackwall tires.

Fully sorted, this has to be one of the best-driving Model As available anywhere. Reasonably priced and ready to drive and tour this summer, this is an outstanding example of one of the more popular and practical Model A body styles.
