As the retailer of more Hemi cars worldwide since 2007 than any five guys added together we've seen some pretty amazing machinery come through our doors. But few cars can compare with this spectacular 100% matching-numbers 1970 Charger R/T Hemi which is one of only 56 Hemi Chargers built that year sporting a 1-of-1 color combination on top of being the only Hemi Charger ever built with the Performance hood with engine call-out. We also believe this is the most heavily optioned 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi in existence. This Charger is so amazing that it received a rating of 1.1 from Galen Govier. Oh did we mention the science fiction level documentation the complete ownership history from new and one of the best stories we've ever seen attached to a Mopar muscle car? Make no bones about it-this is the ultimate no excuses Hemi Charger. If you are a 68-70 Dodge Charger fan like we are this is THE Hemi to own if you're serious about having the absolute best.

Our story begins in California in 1968 where a young lad of 13 by the name of Wayne Gagosian landed a job washing dishes with the intent of saving enough money to purchase a Hemi Charger when he was old enough to drive. The Gagosian family lived very close to Carl Berger Dodge in San Diego CA and Wayne had grown up watching the Dodge muscle cars roll into the dealership sparking his fascination with the Dodge Charger R/T Hemi. Two years later at the age of fifteen Wayne had amassed more than $5500.00 in his Hemi war chest. Unfortunately for Wayne (and fortunately for us 42 years later) the clock was ticking after news arrived that Dodge was redesigning the Charger for 1971. If Wayne were going to get the Charger he wanted it would have to be a 1970 model. So off he ran to Carl Berger Dodge and after he stopped checking off options the final price tallied $6100.00!

Check out the breakdown of the original fender tag on this R/T which is backed up by the original Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet and the original Window Sticker from Carl Berger Dodge:

XS29:
Dodge Charger
Special R/T
2-Door Sports Hardtop
R0G: 426 HEMI 425 horsepower 2x4 barrel 8 cylinders
1970
St. Louis MO USA
223755: Sequence number
E74: 426 Hemi 2x4 barrel V8 425hp
D21: 4-Speed Manual Transmission
FY1: Top Banana Exterior Color
C6XA: Trim - Charger Vinyl Bucket Seats Charcoal/Black
TX9: Black Int. In July of 1970 Wayne took his driver's test in the Charger and managed to secure his driver's license. Thrilled at having such a high profile machine the sixteen year old buy did what any of us in his position would have done-he set about impressing females with his car and engaged in a little street racing. However Wayne was a practical kid and the merits of owning a loaded Hemi Charger soon wore thin. Given the era and his age insurance costs were sky high and as was the case with nearly all Hemi cars the car was simply not a practical daily driver. In that first year of ownership Wayne managed to roll up 6000 miles on the Charger and then traded it in on a brown 440 powered 1971 Charger R/T.

Since Wayne was a responsible kid all of the Charger's original paperwork had been stashed away and was presented to the dealer at trade-in including the original Window Sticker the original books & manuals original Warranty Card original dealer paperwork and the original California license plate. Those documents remain with the car to this day.

Having dodged the bullet of being ordered by a 15 year old and surviving unscathed as a 16 year old learned to drive the Hemi Charger was purchased February 13 of 1971 by Lee Hancock who lovingly took care of the car for the better of three decades and was a card carrying member of the National Hemi Owners Association. When Lee passed away in 2000 the Charger had 28000 and a new set of documents including service records California registrations etc. to pass along to the third owner Akbar Aly who wrote to famed Chrysler authentication expert Galen Govier wondering what on earth he had.

In 2003 although the car was remarkably intact and well preserved showing just over 30000 original miles it went to Doug Stewart for a cosmetic restoration. After the professional repaint and detail as completed Galen Govier performed a visual inspection on the car and graded it as a 1.1 which is the highest rating we've ever seen on a Galen Govier visual inspection report. As Galen pointed out in his visual inspection report this Charger has all of its original sheet-metal original 426 HEMI engine (with all original components) original transmission original fender tag and all original body stamps and tags. In short this is as good as it gets. Shortly after the restoration was completed in 2005 the Charger traded hands for a cool $275000.00!

And to finish off the amazing story behind this Charger the car was selected by Daimler Chrysler to be used as a feature for their commercial display at SEMA in 2005. At SEMA 2005 Wayne and the Charger were reunited at an event that created the ultimate photo opportunity and appeared in dozens of collector car magazines. If you want a no-stories Charger with an awesome story this is the one!

Now about the car itself. As you know it's rust-free and matching-numbers but that doesn't quite tell the whole story. This Charger is a 100% correct numbers matching car. Sure it has its original engine block and all original sheet-metal but it doesn't stop there. Also present are the original carburetors intake heads exhaust manifolds and radiator. Look very closely at details like the washer bottle in the engine compartment-that's an original piece not a reproduction. Galen Govier doesn't hand out 1.1 scores unless a car is near perfect ... and except for a reproduction spare and non-original tires this Charger is a reference for any 1970 Hemi Charger that's not a pure survivor.

There's more chrome than you'd expect on a 1970 Charger mostly due to that ultra-cool ring of bumper up front protecting the grille and folding headlights. Of course all the chrome is outstanding from that front bumper to the door handles to the rear bumper which sits just below that awesome single-piece full-width taillight. All the stainless was polished to a brilliant shine then reinstalled-no reproduction pieces here. Details like the flip-up gas cap R/T emblems on the faux vents on the front doors and optional racing mirrors are all in impressive condition considering that most of it is original equipment.

Giving a 16-year-old kid the keys to a Hemi sounds like a recipe for disaster but since young Wayne earned the car himself and didn't have it handed to him well there was a level of respect for the machinery that seems to have been infused into the very sheetmetal. In fact it appears that NOBODY ever abused this car and while the engine was carefully disassembled checked adjusted and rebuilt with vast care most of the vitals are original. Then the elephant was dressed for show with Hemi Orange paint crinkle finish valve covers and all the little things that Mopar guys expect in top-flight show cars. With all the original factory markings still intact reproducing them accurately was easy and every detail you see under the hood is as it was in 1970 when Wayne's mother drove the car home for him (he was only 15 after all). In fact when the current owner acquired it in 2005 he drove it home a testament to how well this big HEMI runs today. Heck even the MOTOR MOUNTS are original! For you numbers guys we have a complete listing of all the components just so you can verify that it is totally legit. Just a sample:

Intake: 27806543
Water pump: 2843290
Left manifold: 3418453
Right manifold: 2780508
Distributor: 2875987
Fan: 28 63 216
Clutch: 2806070/K18

Underneath it's as you would expect fully restored but highly authentic. The original 4-speed manual transmission is there of course feeding the factory-issued Dana 60 full of 3.54 gears which makes this Hemi an effortless cruiser. The floors which original still wear original undercoating with original overspray. New lines and hoses rebuilt brakes and suspension and a fresh dual exhaust system with proper resonators and rectangular chrome tips have been installed. Beautiful Rallye wheels which were original specification although Wayne almost instantly replaced them with a set of Ansen mags have been reinstalled and fitted with reproduction F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.

Loaded with options is how you'd describe the interior. Black buckets were the best choice with the Top Banana paint job but you'll also notice cool things like the 6-way power driver's seat (ever seen THAT in a HEMI?). Incredible as it looks the interior in the Hemi Charger is 90% original. Check out the original seat-covers-that's what they looked like when new. The dash is full of fully-functional Rallye gauges including the Tic-Toc-Tach and the original woodgrain appliques are bright and crisp. Note the completely rust-free door jambs the crisp detailing on the door panels themselves and the taut headliner all included thanks to 40 years of caring maintenance. Grab the pistol-grip shifter and run it through the gears-just because it's almost perfect doesn't mean it isn't ready to rock at a moment's notice. The trunk carries a painted steel wheel and matching Goodyear tire as well as a complete jack assembly and Galen Govier has already verified that all the vital VIN stampings are present and 100% authentic.

Documentation is beyond impressive. We do have the original Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet from under the rear seat and it's exceptionally nice. As I mentioned Wayne kept most of the original paperwork that came with his new Charger including the window sticker dealer invoice order form warranty Certi-Cards consumer information sticker owner's manual receipts for dealer-installed goodies like the Ansen wheels air shocks and a sport steering wheel the original California license plate original keys California emissions certifications registration documents and well the list goes on and on. Finally there's a complete Galen Govier visual inspection package with decodes production figures and photographs and he gives this car the highest possible rating. There are a few restoration photos included and this car has also been featured in magazines around the world including:

Classic American January 2006 (UK)
Musclecar Enthusiast February 2006
Chrom & Flamen February 2006 (Germany)
AMCAR February 2006 (Sweden)
Cars & Parts March 2006
Mopar Collector's Guide March 2006
Super Rod March 2006
Hemming's Muscle Machines May 2006
Wheels Magazine June 2006 (Sweden)
Classic & Powercars June 2006 (Mexico)
A-Cars January 2006 (Japan)

Highly decorated beautifully restored with an incredible story to tell this IS the ultimate Hemi Charger. You'll never get tired of telling its amazing story and the car itself will be the subject of discussion for years to come. Just to reiterate just in case you skipped to the end: matching numbers known ownership history fully documented 1-of1 color combination 1 of 1 options highest numbers of options and low original mileage. Investment-grade HEMIs don't get more blue-chip than this and the price you see on the sticker today will surely be considered a bargain in the future. Few other cars can compare with this one's pedigree HEMI or otherwise. Don't miss this opportunity.

That translated to awesome ground pounding machines for virtually every buyer and a healthy list of go-fast options which allowed those buyers to specify whatever combination of equipment they wanted. Take for example this 1968 Plymouth GTX. Dressed in a unique bronze on black color combination rocking a big block 440 Super Commando V8 under its hood and equipped with a super rare dealer installed dual quad intake it's the kind of car you can take to the local strip to beat up crosstown rivals or take on an everyday grocery run. If you're in the market for an exceptionally restored investment grade Mopar muscle car that will provide years of fond memories and has all the right stuff to continue gaining value for the long term this 1968 GTX is your ticket!

As the beneficiary of a full rotisserie restoration that was completed in September of 2010 this GTX exactly replicates its fender tag specifications right down to its original style redline tires:

1968 model year
Plymouth GTX two door hardtop
Assembled on December 13th of 1967
440 cubic inch 4-barrel high performance V8
4-speed manual floor shifted transmission
Dana 60 Sure Grip rear axle with 3.54 gears
Turbine Bronze Metallic exterior paint
Black horizontal sport stripe
Black sport trim grade interior with vinyl bucket seats
Black upper door frames
F70x14 steel belted redline tires

NUMBERS:
19: Wide sill mouldings
25: Drip rail mouldings
78: Wheel lip mouldings

ABC OPTIONS:

A1: 26 inch radiator
P6: Rear seat speaker
R0: AM eight track radio
T7: Tachometer

abc OPTIONS:

a6: Console
b4: Bucket seats
m6: Driver's outside remote operated mirror
u1: Sold car when built

This stunning three owner 1968 Plymouth GTX is one of the finest Mopar muscle cars on the planet! Its complete rebuild began when Dale Wamsley of Just Metal Restorations meticulously stripped its solid original body down to bare metal and block sanded every facet into a smooth consistent canvas. Once the cars factory accurate panels were fully prepped from beginning to end a correct coat of Chrysler code M Turbine Bronze Metallic was expertly applied under correct black horizontal side stripes and buffed to a brilliant wet-look shine that can only be achieved with today's highly advanced paint technology. Take one look down the sides of this old school Plymouth and it becomes very apparent that it's tough slab-sided body has been straightened and finessed until it looks smoother and lines up better than anything that rolled out of a factory in 1968. Pull the car into the sun light and its glossy urethane paint accurately reproduces Chrysler's unique bronze hue all the while protecting it under a tough and durable clearcoat shell. All that staring and comparing adds up to one super slick Mopar muscle car which wraps brutal performance and a high level of accuracy in classic lines with killer good looks.

With its impressive attention to detail I suspect this GTX will be one of those classics that someone sees falls in love with and buys right off the showroom floor. At the front of the car a body-width chrome trimmed grille centers a silver ''GTX'' emblem between four clear headlights a good looking body-width chrome bumper and clear square parking lights. Above that grille the cars smooth bronze hood which wears two hood scoops that display subtle ''440'' emblems to would-be stoplight challengers flows toward like-new glass that is cleared by stainless wipers shielded by chrome drip rails and framed by original stainless trim. Below that glass multi-faceted body panels which add an unmistakable vintage flavor to the design are detailed with cool round marker lights and giant rear mounted ''GTX'' emblems; and correct stainless wheel trim hangs good looking stainless rocker mouldings below traditional chrome door handles and a pristine driver's side mirror. At the back of the car an original anodized rear valence displays a centered ''Plymouth'' script and chrome ''GTX'' emblem between elaborate tail lights and clear reverse lights; and a second body-width chrome bumper perfectly complements polished stainless exhaust tips.

Fully detailed covered in Plymouth turquoise and currently wearing only break-in miles since a complete rebuild this slick Plymouths 440 cubic inch Super Commando V8 is spectacular in every measurable way! The coolest thing about this legendary Chrysler mill is its dual quad Edelbrock intake that according to a story passed down with the title and a dealer warranty sticker that's still present in the driver's side door jamb is a correct dealer installed piece which is original to the car. At the top of that intake two modern carburetors which have been blasted to appear vintage sip fuel through fresh stainless fuel lines and suck air through a fresh re-usable filter element that is clamped into a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner. At the base of that intake a correct points distributor sends fire through Autolite Professional plug wires. And at the sides of that intake restored original exhaust manifolds send spent gases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. Cooling for the big engine is provided by the cars original re-cored 26 inch Chrysler radiator which sits in front of a correct seven blade fan and an original fan shroud. And like the engine itself the cars Turbine Bronze Metallic engine bay is highly detailed and exceptionally impressive from its correct master cylinder rebuilt wiper motor and correctly tagged reproduction Mopar yellow cap battery to its correct hoses correct clamps and reproduction Chrysler washer tank.

This GTX definitely has the performance to back up its sinister good looks; and with the awesome Chrysler big blocks excellent low end acceleration you can rest assured that the cars undercarriage is chock-full of some of the best performance hardware to ever make its way out of Auburn Hills Michigan. Behind the big bore engine you'll find a freshly rebuilt A833 18 spline 4-speed manual transmission which sends power to a correct Dana 60 Sure Grip rear end that's stuffed with stout 3.54 gears. Naturally the front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension has been completely restored and includes: a rebuilt manual steering system new rear springs and new shocks at every wheel. At the center of the car a free flowing 2.5 inch aluminized exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to two chamber Turbo mufflers and traditional stainless tips. And at the corners of the car new stainless brake lines and new brake hoses supply fully rebuilt factory front disc and rear drum brakes which sit behind mandatory chrome Magnum 500 wheels and meaty 215/70 Turbo-Tech redline tires. The cars restored floors have been coated in the same Turbine Bronze Metallic that you'll find on both its exterior panels and inner fenders; and everything from its new stainless fuel tank to its fresh stainless chassis bolts presents just as well as when it rolled out of the restoration shop.

This Plymouths fender tag says it was originally equipped with an S6X Black interior; and accordingly it has been restored with a roster of reproduction parts which provide the kind of jaw-dropping good looks you just can't find in today's cars. The rear bench and the front buckets seats are firm and despite being traditional muscle car vinyl feel much more upscale than most. At the bottom of those seats new black carpet props a correct Hurst shifter in the middle of a correct chrome trimmed center console; and at the top of the seats a tight black headliner frames a correct dome light. The cars pristine wood trimmed dash hangs fully rebuilt gauges which include an offset tachometer beside an original two watt Solid State AM radio which sports Chrysler's cool thumb-wheel knobs. In front of the driver a restored wood rimmed steering wheel sits on a rebuilt original steering column. At the sides of the seats correct door panels hang new armrests among fresh stainless trim new Woodgrain applique and correct gloss black door frames. And behind the cockpit a fully restored trunk props a full-size spare tire between a reproduction mat and a correct decklid decal.

Included with the sale of this awesome GTX is a small album of restoration photos.

With a highly detailed restoration that was completed by expert Mopar builders this awesome '68 GTX is about as close to original as a restored car can get. It's fast comfortable stylish and when you take a minute to look at the quality of its workmanship you realize that the cost of restoring it to this level is about twice what it takes to drive it out of our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. If you're in the market for an old school investment grade muscle car that will gain value while you're enjoying it for years to come this broad shouldered Plymouth is just what you've been looking for!

In our current inventory we have many numbers matching investment grade cars that are perfectly suited for trailering to shows and sitting in museums. However as much as we enjoy historic pieces that appear as though they've been stuck in a time capsule for 40 years we're also red-blooded car enthusiasts who love selling cars that can actually be driven and enjoyed as they were originally intended. And with its awesome black and white color combination ground pounding 468 cubic inch engine and subtle appearance modifications throughout this 1969 Camaro pro-tourer will turn driving your muscle car from a hobby into an obsession! If you're looking for some classic Detroit metal that delivers the drivability of a modern sports car in one of the best looking packages to ever roll onto American streets this is your car!

Logging only 100 miles since a complete frame-off restoration that was completed just last year this killer 1969 Camaro displays smooth bodywork and first rate fit and finish that is nothing short of immaculate. The build began with a solid first generation Camaro body that was massaged aligned to better than factory standards and equipped with exceptionally precise seams which are worthy of being on a modern luxury car. Once that well-done body was completely smooth and ready for paint a mirror-like coat of gloss black urethane was blanketed with traditional white rally stripes and sealed under a slick clearcoat shell that has been wet sanded and buffed to an absolutely brilliant shine. One look down this Camaro's straight and super glossy profile reveals that days and perhaps even months were put into making sure it's build was first rate in every way. And the result is an exceptional pro-tourer which combines the best fundamentals of a classic muscle car with an acute attention to detail that is more characteristic of a hundred point concourse restoration.

The best pro-tourers are those which utilize modern technology and customization to enhance the original integrity of an already attractive muscle car design. And this '69 Camaro with its subtle and carefully planned enhancements is literally the definition of that logic. At the front of the car a stainless trimmed and gray painted grille centers a pristine white inlayed ''SS'' emblem between trick modern headlights and a showroom fresh chrome bumper which features completely smoothed hardware. At the bottom of that bumper crystal clear modern parking lights with amber bulbs hang above an option D80 front spoiler; and above that bumper a familiar ZL2 cowl induction hood rides in front of custom cowl vent delete panels. Behind those cowl delete panels like-new glass is cleared by bright stainless wipers shielded by new chrome drip rails and framed by fresh dent-free stainless trim. And at the sides of the car standard stainless rocker moldings and straight stainless wheel well trim perfectly complement correct chrome marker lights traditional chrome GM door handles and a correct chrome driver's side mirror. At the back of the car an option D80 rear decklid spoiler has been modified to sit flush against a perfectly aligned trunk lid and sculpted rear fenders. And clear '69 Camaro exclusive tail lights illuminate a second white inlayed ''SS'' emblem which hangs above a second showroom fresh chrome bumper that features a second set of completely smoothed hardware.

While the exterior enhancements to this sinister Camaro seem subtle at first glance the 468 cubic inch V8 under its hood is anything but! And when the owner decided to bring his vision of the perfect Camaro powerplant to life he began by grinding all the engines cast surfaces down to a smooth finish building custom inner fenders smoothing the firewall and hood and covering everything from the core support to the ancillary components in a slick coat of matte paint. At the top of the block air flows from a custom black air cleaner which is slightly reminiscent of a classic tri-five Chevy unit into a chrome Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor that is fed by a rear mounted braided fuel line. The resulting air fuel mixture makes its way from an aluminum intake manifold to GM Performance Parts aluminum heads which ride between custom black and silver Chevrolet valve covers and eight giant cylinders that feature a .030 overbore. Those cylinders fire via a Mallory Unilite points distributor which sends fire through black Taylor plug wires; breathe well courtesy of matte black long tube headers which are connected to a brutal three inch exhaust system; and create roughly 450-500 horsepower courtesy of a high performance Comp Cams camshaft. At the front of the block a matte black Walker radiator sits between a quick spinning electric fan a matte black aluminum cap and a matte black overflow tank. And a fresh serpentine belt spins a satin chrome power steering pump below a smooth matte silver water pump and a low mount matte silver alternator. Since this Camaro just benefitted from a complete high quality restoration its engine compartment is exceptionally clean and thus far hasn't even had enough time to build up a thin layer of dust. And details like polished hydraulic hood hinges a built in temperature gauge a matte black brake booster and a billet aluminum master cylinder add the kind of eye candy that will form crowds and win trophies.

Park this Camaro pro-tourer on a lift and you'll be pleased to find that the restorer's immaculate attention to detail and extreme dedication to performance expand from the engine bay to both the cars clean under carriage and modern suspension. The tweaked and fueled big bore engine powers a stalwart Muncie M21 4-speed transmission which spins a traditional GM 12 bolt Posi-traction rear end that's stuffed full of familiar 3.73 gears. Most of the cars double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension is comprised of restored factory hardware; however the owner did see fit to optimize the cars SCCA worthy handling with the addition of tubular front control arms fresh front coil overs and four Koni Classic shocks. Naturally a powerful drivetrain like this needs equally powerful opposition for the sake of effective stops so the car was fitted with a Classic Performance Products four wheel disc system which utilizes giant orange calipers to squeeze large drilled and slotted rotors. At the center of the floor spent gases flow from the engines matte long tube headers into a coated three inch true dual exhaust system which barks a throaty roar thanks to dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And at the corners of the floor fully polished (yes that means polished both front AND back) American Racing Torque Thrust IIs spin 225/45/17 BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport front radials and 245/55/18 BF Goodrich G-Force T/A rear radials. Like the engine bay the cars solid floorpans and fresh undercarriage components have been carefully coated in a fresh layer of matte black paint. And small touches like new stainless hardware new stainless fuel and brake lines a matte silver transmission case and a matte silver oil pan provide an excellent contrast which gives the car a professional finished look.

Open this Camaro's solid doors and you'll find a fully restored black and white houndstooth interior which is one of the most stylish cockpits to ever roll out of a GM design studio. The completely rebuilt front bucket and rear bench seats feel as firm as the day they left the showroom and perfectly complement a tight black headliner like-new black carpet and fresh ''Camaro'' branded rubber floor mats. In front of those seats a straight and crack-free black dash holds an optional electric clock a pristine speedometer and a correct AC tachometer above correct radio and heater deletes and an aftermarket MP3 jack. At the sides of those seats deluxe Camaro door panels hang pristine stainless trim and new chrome door handles below correct black door pulls. And between those seats a correct black console props traditional Camaro 'four pack' gauges in front of a fully chromed and wood trimmed Hurst shifter and a functional rear courtesy light. In front of the driver a polished Lecarra steering wheel spins around a tilt steering column that's complete with a full set of billet stalks. And behind the cockpit a fully restored trunk cages the cars traditional top post battery in a trick billet tie down.

If you're in the market for a pavement bruiser that is a blast to show off and even MORE fun to drive your search is over. This expertly restored 1969 Camaro pro tourer mixes classic Chevrolet looks with a ton of power and some of the best suspension and braking components on the market. Why waste years of your valuable time and strain your bank account on a ground up muscle car build when you can walk right into our showroom throw down about half the money you were going to spend and experience just how refreshing instant gratification is?
